P24: Using digital video to help the transition from infant to junior school
Author: Lynn Roberts, Furze infants school, Barking and Dagenham
Date: 2005
Final year infants school students created videos about themselves to take to the introductory meeting at the junior school prior to transition. The idea was to give children a voice in a situation where they are usually passive recipients of information. The headteacher of the junior school was extremely enthusiastic about the project, proposing that the technology had allowed for a new kind of communication between the two schools to take place. The students were extremely pleased with their work and the experience, and future plans for video-aided communication between the two schools are under way. Lynn describes the process, offering advice for others considering doing similar projects.
