G1: Helping teachers create appropriate ICT Learning Resources
Author: Tim Morgan, Content Developer, Barking College

A good model for collaboration between teachers and software developers is for teachers to apply their expertise to designing the learning resource. The software developer can then take the teacher's design, enhance the illustration and realise the design in a piece of software.
"Adaptability and simplicity are key to a resource's success," says Tim. Teachers need to be able to adapt the resources, yet opportunities to undertake training to use complicated programmes are rare. Easy-to-use content templates are preferred and used regularly, while hard-to-use software and hardware tend to go to waste.
The value of the content would be maximised if it were shared between institutions. This hasn't happened yet in this case, although inter-institutional peer learning groups and networks are one potential way to encourage resource sharing between institutions.
