FE33: Using Digital Video In The Role Play Of An A Level Business Studies Board Of Director's Meeting
Author: Ros Angela Bhandari, Sandwell College
Date: 2006
Summary
The teacher investigated whether filming a role play, part of an A2 Business Studies course, would have an impact on students' learning experiences.
Action
The students were informed that the role play would be filmed, leading to 2 students asking not to be directly involved but act as observers only. The teacher thought that this was due to a lack of confidence, although she stated that there was always some resistance to the role play anyway. After filming the students were given their own copies on DVD to view at their leisure, and the results were discussed as a group. The students' feedback to filming the role play was then sought.
Outcomes
The feedback was generally very positive, with students commenting that they enjoyed the experience and that they took more care over their performance in the role play because it was being filmed. Students also felt that watching the DVD allowed them to analyse their own performance and to improve on it in the future. The teacher also felt that the more reticent students would now be encouraged to take part in future role plays. Marks for the filmed role play were higher than for previous ones.
