FE11: Collaboration between schools and college: learning from the content workshop road show
Author: Richard Wright, Barking College
Date: 2005

Summary

Richard describes and reflects on the process of collaborating between teachers and developers, and between schools and colleges, to produce content which is technologically and educationally of a high quality.

Actions

The content workshop is an ICT Test Bed facility based in Barking college. It comprises a team of developers and designers who work with teachers from schools across the cluster to develop content. The workshop has run a 'Road show' around schools in the locality to develop awareness of the facility and initiate relationships and projects. At the time of writing, 11 projects had been completed with many more in development.

Reflections

Templates for interactive programs which teachers can adapt for different classes or subjects have been extremely popular. The 'time in - value out' ratio must be considered in the development of content and the right balance must be struck - templates are popular as they maximise the value out. Methods of teaching must drive the use of technology, not vice versa. Richard offers some suggestions for further development.
