FE6: An investigation into the introduction and potential of an interactive voting system to promote learning and achievement within an FE college
Author: Pat Bone, Childcare Tutor, Bishop Auckland College, County Durham
Date: 2005

An interactive voting system was used as an effective revision tool with two groups of childcare students in a College of Further Education.

The technique was found to be an excellent revision tool, providing instant feedback and successfully reinforcing prior learning, while focusing discussions that enabled students to develop their understanding. The use of the multiple choice style developed familiarity and confidence with the assessment format among students who were nervous of formal assessment.

The process galvanised class attention and received extremely positive feedback. In the next stage, students will compile their own questions as part of the tutor's strategy to encourage students to take greater ownership of the assessment process and integrate it as a valuable part of learning.
