FE37: Establishing Video-Conferencing.
Author: Peter Crisp, Sandwell College
Date: 2006
Summary
Peter discusses the use of Video-Conferencing (VC) at Sandwell College, from the initial set-up and associated technical issues, to the successful implementation of a link to a former Sandwell College tutor now based in Los Angeles.
Action
After a one day on site Systems Administration training course, Peter set up the VC equipment at the college and initially tested it by setting up a link to another local school. He then moved on to setting up links between the three separate campuses of Sandwell College before moving on to the link to Los Angeles. This enabled a small group of AS Level Science students to continue receiving lessons from their former tutor.
Outcomes
After some initial technical issues causing poor sound and picture quality, the use of Video Conferencing is now being expanded into different areas. Although it is still early days, Peter feels that this technology will be of great use to the college in future.
