P63: Using the digital camera to support the language development of a child with autism
Author: Naomi Frost, Reception Teacher, Furze Infants
Date: 2006
Summary
Naomi, a reception teacher, used a digital camera to support the language development of an autistic child in her class. She worked with a teaching assistant to test the pupil's vocabulary. She then worked with him to develop photo and video-books. Naomi found that this technology together with his support assistant's input, had increased his vocabulary, reinforcing a quarter of his spoken words and encouraging him to say new words and work independently.
